Friendship Is A Gift

Jul 30, 2008 13:55

People from all walks of life agree that true friendship is more precious than the most expensive gem in the world.

The following are some of my favorite quotes on friendship: (1) "If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!" - Ecclesiastes 4:10; (2) "The most I can do for my friend is simply to be his friend. I have no wealth to bestow on him. If he knows that I am happy in loving him, he will want no other reward. Is not friendship divine in this?" - Henry David Thoreau; (3) "A friend is a person with whom I may be sincere. Before him I may think aloud." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Dada is my female bestfriend. We met when we were both studying at the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines. All through our friendship, we made sure that each of us played a major part in the stages of our lives. I remember how we would have marathon talks on the phone (no internet back then). We were each other's human journal and prayer partner. Even when she got married and moved to the U. S., we would still have those talks on the phone (even with internet access already available -- proof that old habits are hard to break).

Friendship is truly a gift that all should experience but we first have to be willing to be a friend too!
