I finally decided to go to Trinoma (a mall in Quezon City, Philippines) yesterday after turning down a lot of invites from friends to either watch a movie, have coffee or just check out the shops there. Before proceeding, I gave my friend Jazmin a call to find out if she had plans of going there too because I wanted to hit two birds with one stone. We could have some bonding time as I tour the place. I was pleasantly surprised when she said that she was also on her way there and set National Bookstore as our meeting place.
While waiting for Jazmin at the bookstore, I went around looking for board paper needed to print business cards. I chose a color but when Jazmin arrived, she said, "Ugh! That's not you!" and proceeded to point to a color that she thought was the one that fitted me. "A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words." (Unknown). Thank God for friends who know you enough to remind you of who you are when you need to be reminded! I was able to do the same thing for her as she shopped for items she needed as well.
After a hearty conversation over a hearty dinner at Don Henrico's along Tomas Morato, Jazmin said that she wanted to sing (we both like singing) so I agreed to accompany her. She brought me to a sing-along place called Sangkalan along Scout Albano St. I was happy that it wasn't stuffed with cigarette smoke. She sang her heart out and insisted that I sing too. I sang a couple of songs but enjoyed listening and clapping for her and other customers more.
We had a wonderful bonding time and I enjoyed every minute of it.
Gloria Naylor, an African-American novelist and educator once said, "Sometimes being a friend means mastering the art of timing. There is a time for silence. A time to let go and allow people to hurl themselves into their own destiny. And a time to prepare to pick up the pieces when it's all over."
