"other than calvin's sears silvertone guitar and a pair of maracas, the trio owned no instruments. they borrowed from friends and practiced where they could. they lived in downtown apartments, appeared intermittently at classes at the evergreen state college and helped create a community of young people who thrived on making and listening to music. olympia, the small state capital of washington, was slowly becoming populated with punks and beatniks who lived in cheap downtown apartments and rented out vacant storefronts for show, galleries, and studiios. music was everywhere. bands started on one day and played a show on the next. an open passage in an alley seved as a candlelit venue. everyone shared resources. it was a good place to start a band"
oh mannn.
