Fandom: Gossip Girl
Title: What Matters
Characters; Pairing: Blair; Chuck/Blair
Rating: G
Summary: It doesn't matter that she graduated from Yale in the end
Spoilers: Not much, only school spoilers if haven't seen end s2.
Disclaimer: Gossip Girl isn't mine.

It doesn't matter that she graduated from Yale in the end (for grad school, NYU for undergrad) or that she's not some big-shot New York lawyer with her last name on the door to a firm (on the highest floor of a skyscraper).
It doesn't matter that she's working for her mother (as a publicist, this-season's-most-exclusive-event-model, manager, critic, last-minute-problem-solver, and sometimes-can-you-look-over-this-lawyer).
Or that her mother's as critical of her as ever ("you should have your own firm by now" "are you really going to eat that slice of cake?" "have you gained a few pounds?"), thanks to the successful (stick-thin and of course, beautiful) models she hires for her shoots and shows ("are those bags under your eyes?").
It doesn't matter that the only traveling she does is for Waldorf Designs (and that's only Paris and Milan, LA once a year).
It doesn't matter that she's not married (she's not even engaged) to the richest and handsomest and most well-known-and-liked boy (man) of the Upper East Side (no it's not Nathaniel Archibald anymore).
It doesn't matter that she's not the Queen on top of the world (incidentally that's Nate's wife, Katherine).

What does matter is that she likes her job (she can do it all, she likes doing it all, the perfectionist she is).
She likes working with her mother (it's the closest she can get to her, critiques and all) and the models (they may be thin but she's seen the heroin veins and heard the toilet flushes).
She likes traveling to Paris and Milan (they're the most beautiful cities and as she gets older she realizes that every place is essentially the same).
She likes her friends (the small group she keeps and loves, and of course, Serena is still her best friend through all these years) and the events she goes to (she's still well-known and adored in upper society).
It matters that she likes her boyfriend (Chuck Bass, who she still hasn't managed to get rid of, not that she would want to) or should she say soon-to-be-fiancé (because her friends, okay Serena, saw him browsing at Tiffany's and couldn't keep that big of a secret).
What does matter is that Blair Waldorf loves her life even though it's not the one she once dreamed of (so many years ago from her perfect bedroom being waited on by Dorota) or planned (she stopped planning when she found out how much better life is when it wasn't).
