I rarely shop during the Boxing Week mayhem (it began as Boxing Day sales, but it's probably more profitable to run them a few days, and anyway in the Maritimes Boxing Day is still a holiday, so there actually aren't Boxing Day sales.)
However, I went downtown today in a fever of impatience to find It Might Get Loud on DVD. HMV doesn't have it yet, they ordered it Christmas Eve and expect it to be in a few days from now.
I had parked on Brunswick Street by the Folklore Centre, and since I had money on my meter (I remembered the meter! I am rarely driving downtown in the day, so I have been known to forget) and I've been wanting a parlour guitar, I went in to check what they had.
Art & Lutherie, another Godin line, makes a solid-top parlour model that doesn't have the detailing of my Simon & Patrick but is still very nice as a backup. I ended up buying a cedar-top antique burst (the spruce top was red burst which would have been nice with my blue, but I thought I'd like a different tone wood along with the different body style) which came with a nifty padded gig bag.
Okay, I have a few collector tendencies, but this guitar actually makes sense: I have that back problem, which means I sometimes have trouble playing my blue dread because it gets awkward to hold. Thing is, when my back is bad it would make me feel better if I could play. Thus, the tiny guitar. Also, it is very light and easy to get in and out of my little car.
The model is the Ami. I may end up calling this guitar Buddy, but we'll see. The darned thing is so cute I might end up calling it Paul.
