I referred to that reverse-Stockholm effect where the hostage-taker develops empathy for the hostages and this prevents him from hurting them.
I feel the need to remark that I spent several years trying to write a murder mystery, but kept having to abandon each effort after I got attached to the victim and found myself unable to kill him. (Or her.)
Which means I am less mentally stable than might be considered optimal, but also probably means that if you ever hear of a middle-aged librarian running amok in Halifax and taking hostages... chances are it isn't me. Or if it is, no one is likely to get hurt.
So, yay?
