This past weekend was Canadian Thanksgiving. Normally I go to my parents' place for the weekend, but the rest of the family is out west at my brother's place for the holiday. It's not a time of year when I can get days off, and BC is a long way to go for dinner. However, a friend from library school (one of the Harry Potter movie gang) had to come into town on Sunday for a meeting. So I met her afterward, had lunch at a local restaurant, and then went to the movies. We saw Real Steel, the boxing robot one (think Rocky meets Transformers) with Hugh Jackman and the kid who played Young Thor in Thor. I thought it was pretty adorable--sentimental family fun, with robots. And Hugh Jackman's arms.
Sunday I got home from the barn in time to see the second half of the Alouettes/Argonauts CFL game, which was nice because Als quarterback Anthony Calvillo needed about 250 passing yards to become pro football's all-time leader.
He managed the feat on the last play of the third quarter, passing for a touchdown, on Thanksgiving, at home, which for a very low-key sort of a guy demonstrated a nice flair for the dramatic.
The weather was crazy-warm all weekend and quite lovely, although I expect we'll pay for that soon.
And yeah. That was the long weekend.
