I could probably use some ether, as well, but there was not any at the grocery store and so I am afraid I shall have to do without.

I was hoping you would have one. No, the objects it needs to be applied to are portable, so I can just bring them down there.

Possibly. But I have to admit, there's not a lot else you can do with a mallet.

Have you ever noticed that, the simpler the tool, the fewer things you can do with it that don't involve breaking anything?

Umm. [ ponderponder ] Well, usually we manufacture tools to deal with the difficult things in life.

... Well, yes, I suppose that is the literal reason for that.

But now you've caught my curiosity. What are you not breaking?

If I told you that it's a surprise, you would know what it is.
