CHARACTER

✧ NAME: Dawn Karigen-Callux
✧ SERIES: original character
✧ HISTORY: The world in which Dawn was born is known simply as the world of Scions, "Scions" being those who, for one reason or another, are gifted with the use of magic and other metaphysical or superhuman talents. At times throughout the world's history, however, the dominant religion known as the Church of Lysander has deemed these Scions to be harbingers of certain doom. It was at one of these times that Alministre Marcus Delann rose to power, and it was as a result of his order to exterminate them that Scions Rufus Callux and Laine Karigen first met-and as a result of their meeting, they banded together to defeat Delann and expose the Church for its corrupted ways. They also fell in love along the way, and while they never exactly settled down after their adventures in saving the world, they did have a daughter and named her Dawn.

She led a fairly normal childhood-well, as normal as one can be while growing up aboard her parents' airship, the Condor. She learned everything necessary for survival in the sky, including how to wield a number of high-powered rifles and perform simple mechanical repairs on the fly, and has spent the majority of her life thus far in the air rather than on the ground. What little time she has spent on the ground, however, has mostly been in the care of her uncle, who has trained her in the slightly less practical fields of oration and philosophy.

Although her parents tried to curb her natural interest in the events prior to her birth, their efforts only furthered her curiosity, which was growing more and more by the day. After seeking to know more about the mysterious "condor," who was not only the ship's namesake but had also saved her parents' lives, her mother finally relented, telling her the "condor" was to be found in a universe far from their own.

If her mother had hoped to deter her from making any further attempt to find the condor, she failed quite spectacularly. Instead, Dawn became more determined than ever, enough so that she immediately began studying portal magic and set out as a dimension-hopper, with every intent of exploring worlds far from her own in search of the condor.

✧ TIMELINE: after she has set out from home, but before she has had the chance to do much otherworldly exploration.

✧ PERSONALITY: She is almost always optimistic, largely carefree, and persistently curious. To see her without a smile on her face is rare, and to see her upset or truly angry is even rarer. If she doesn't know something, she won't hesitate to try and fix that, no matter what lengths she might have to go to in pursuit of that information. Similarly, she holds few secrets and will readily answer any question asked of her to the best of her knowledge.

She always speaks her mind, though she's not necessarily opinionated; she simply has a tendency to think aloud, and her speech tends to follow her patterns of thought to the letter. Despite her oratory training, in casual speech, she rarely puts much thought behind her words. However, that oratory training has served her well in that she can speak eloquently on certain matters whenever she puts her mind to it; the only trouble is that she sees little practical use for this skill, and so rarely does put her mind to it.

Her family is what she treasures the most, and she views her friends and allies with the same regard. She loves to discover new things and meet new people, and she forges friendships with ease-perhaps too much ease, in some cases, as she tends more often than not to give people the benefit of doubt and see only the best in them. If asked, she'll say that she has no personal desires beyond "finding the condor," but in truth, she longs to be able to use magic on the same level as her parents, despite her total lack of talent for the art.

She has but one fear that she'll acknowledge, and that is of thunderstorms; just the sound of thunder (or something resembling it) is enough to nearly paralyze her. Otherwise, no matter how hopeless or frightening her circumstances may be, she always tries her best to keep a confident face and look for the best in any situation.

✧ ABILITIES/POWERS: Despite both of her parents being Scions, since she isn't actually a Scion herself, Dawn is utterly incapable of any magic apart from the simplest portal spell (which, understandably, she will be just as utterly incapable of using in Promenade). However, she is skilled with the use of various firearms and the workings of basic mechanical craft, and with her interest in and knack for mechanics, can easily pick up on the use of others.

✧ TIME OF ARRIVAL: day

✧ MASK DESIGN: this one!
✧ PLACE OF SOLACE: the bridge of the Condor, which is fairly cozy and low-tech as far as sky-plying vessels go.

SAMPLES

✧ FIRST PERSON:
Ah- Hello? Is this thing working now? Hmm.

Well, if anyone out that can hear me-hello! My name is Dawn Karigen-Callux, and I guess I was just dropped into this world... Though I usually remember when something like that happens... [quickly shakes her head] Anyway! Could anyone tell me more about this, um-it's called a "PORTAL," right? [taps on the screen] Is it some sort of di-comm? It looks just like one, but it's kind of weird for a di-comm not to have any sort of transport function, and believe me, I've looked for it.

Um, I guess this is running kind of long, so... If anyone out there can help me out, I'd really appreciate it! [smiles and waves before switching the feed off]

✧ THIRD PERSON:
With the message safely sent (or so she hoped), Dawn leaned back against the building wall and resumed toying with her not-a-di-comm. How strange, she thought, that it should have a name like "PORTAL" and yet not even be capable of making one! Nor did it even seem capable of accessing even the most basic information networks; in fact, the only network it seemed capable of accessing at all was one strictly within the bounds of this world, whatever world it was.

She scrolled through some of the other posts, humming to herself and only briefly skimming over their contents. The more she considered it, the more it made sense; if the not-a-di-comm was a product of this world, it would only be natural for its capabilities to be limited to this world, wouldn't it? That didn't explain why it shared such a close resemblance to the standard di-comm model, but...well, maybe that standard model was more common than she thought.

Not that any of it worried her, of course. Even if this thing didn't have much use on its own (not that the network access wasn't handy, of course, but its limited capability and lack of portaling technology did draw back from it), she still had her regular di-comm for whenever she felt like moving on from this city-right?

Again, she shook her head. There was no use dwelling on that sort of thing when there was still exploring to be done! She switched off her not-a-di-comm, stuffed it into the back pocket of her jeans, and set off to see the rest of the city.

✧ ORIGINAL CHARACTER QUESTION:
Finding herself in a strange, unfamiliar world is nothing new to Dawn (though the not remembering how she got there is a bit unsettling), so her first reaction will be to simply explore and try to find out as much about her surroundings as possible. At first, she'll probably find it hard to believe that she really can't leave on her own, and once she's finally convinced of that, she'll definitely be unsettled-but she isn't one to let any sort of doubt show through, so she'll do her best to fit in and get used to life in Promenade.
