Heh. Vince is getting frustrated on so MANY levels, isn't he? ;)

But this just keeps getting more fascinating, because it feels like they're finally sort-of, kind-of getting the hang of the switch, or at least enough to be able to exert a tiny bit of control and explain to each other what's wrong. Okay, maybe not MUCH control, since Howard did burst into tears... but at least he was able to express his frustration at the foreign sensation of all these intense feelings about everything! That's a sort of progress. And so is Vince's being able to pause enough to admit that he's feeling flooded with horniness and aggression--or, in other words, that he feels like a guy.

But for all that his impulses have been shaped by not-great male role models--like snapping at Howard for being a "prissy virgin"--his usual Vincey self shows through in his guilt at having said such a thing, and the sincere apology for saying it. And in wanting to comfort Howard, and in assuring him that he likes him the way he is, without exceptions. And having enough self-control to pull back after one kiss, before they can get themselves into yet another fight... it feels like Vince is figuring out how to assert himself through the testosterone haze, at least sometimes.

As for Howard... he's usually the prince of passive aggression anyway, but the switch (and his mum's example) has put the emphasis on the passive and judgey part, instead of his usual complaints... which just makes Vince feel more judged, and he's especially hyper-sensitive and ragey about that now. That's an explosive combination! But maybe if they both keep trying, they can at least start to reassert a less toxic dynamic. (And eventually get around to be GOOD kind of explosiveness. At least I hope so...)

Here's hoping that Dead End gets them working together instead of picking each other apart!
