Author’s note:  Working an overnight tonight, and my plan is to do jack shit for school and focus on what matters.  Getting to the porny bits of this story.

Vince felt a tad guilty about using the Head Shaman and his sword as an excuse to get a kiss from Howard, but that was well over-shadowed by his giddy excitement at finally having done it.  Vince could feel Howard’s saliva drying on his lips and a tingling where Howard’s mustache had scratched his sensitive skin.  Poor Howard had been confused and had barely moved, but he never tried to escape.  In fact, he’d given Vince a bit of tongue.  Vince was ready to tease Howard about being a cheeky bitch and test the waters on a second kiss, when he realized that Howard had gone wrong.

Howard’s eyes had a crazed looked, like when he was in a jazz trance, as he declared his love for Vince.  It was like the time Howard fell in love with Mrs. Gideon.  Howard had barely noticed Mrs. Gideon before, in fact, it had been Vince who fancied her first.  There was something about her aloof nature and prim hair that intrigued Vince.   Howard had teased Vince relentlessly any time he so much as glanced at the older woman, calling her “Mrs. Robinson” and saying she wouldn’t be “handling” Vince’s “snake” any time soon.  Then she asked him to reach a book off of a high shelf.  As she patted his arm and commented on how he was, “so nice and tall”, Howard’s eyes turned glassy.  He Mooned over her for months, oblivious to her indifference and Vince’s annoyance.  Ironically, Mrs. Gideon actually took the occasional interest in Vince after Howard fell in love with her.  She was a complicated woman (according to Howard) and therefore only like men who weren’t interested.

Howard was desperately in love with Mrs. Gideon until she left the zoo and he forgot all about her.  That was Howard’s way.  He was so desperate for validation; he became obsessed with any woman who was kind, or at least not directly unkind.

Vince knew from many years of experience that the effects of their kiss would be short-lived.  Howard might fall in love with a woman for a few months, but his flirty devotion to Vince would fade with the alcohol in his system.  Tomorrow, Howard would still be in love with the pencil case girl and Vince would be firmly back in his ‘good mate’ category.

As they fell from the roof, Vince was both grateful that he’d snuck out early to arrange for the bouncy castle rental and sorry that Howard lost his balance before they could kiss again.  Vince wasn’t about to take advantage of Howard’s temporary love madness, but he wasn’t going to refuse a harmless little snog.  A kiss wasn’t a leap across the physical boundary.  At most, it was sticking a toe over the physical boundary.

Then the pencil case girl showed up, and it was all over for Vince.  Mrs. Gideon got nearly a year of Howard’s love from one half-assed compliment and Vince couldn’t even get a second kiss.  After a little initial awkwardness, Vince pulled it together and pulled an awesome girl.  They didn’t so much get off together as spend two hours reapplying each other’s make-up, but Vince had a girl in “his” bedroom for two hours, so that definitely counted as pulling.  There had been an awkward moment when the girl… Magenta?  Plum?... the girl named after a color asked how he slept when his bed was completely covered in clothes.  When he explained that he’d given up on his bed a year ago and just bunked with Howard every night, she smiled and asked if he wanted to make a date to go shoe shopping.

Vince could hardly wait to tell Howard he had a date with… Violet?  Amber?... a beautiful woman.  Howard was going to be well jealous.
