Mod Post: Discussion Planning
Sorry for so much clutter today, guys. I’ve got a few orders of business before the fun begins. Bear with me! :)
If you haven’t already, read through ‘The Concrit’, the mod post concerning the guidelines for giving and receiving concrit. There’s also some generalized guidelines on posting entries to the community.
I’ve also posted our ‘dial-a-mod’ post, which will serve as a catch all for suggestions and in case anyone feels uncomfortable PM-ing the mods for any reason.
Planned discussion posts. Got a few things nailed down. Still working on others. Suggestions welcome. :)
'Writers' Weaknesses' - This post will be hosted by the mods and give you the chance to 'let it all hang out' and confess your writing bad habits. The community, in turn, offers advice to help you kick the bad habit to the curb and we can follow up each week to give encouragement. Tentatively scheduled for Wednesdays and starting this week. (May only be twice a month, depending on popularity.) This post will be open to all members and anyone can read it.
'Talky-Bits' - This weekly discussion post will be hosted by the mods and feature writing bits up for discussion, such as dialogue, themes, story, plot, character development, brainstorming, planning, etc. Tentatively scheduled for Tuesdays and starting next week. (We'll post more about it later this week.) This post will be open to all members and anyone can read it.
'Zombies Ate My Brain' - We want to do a post where you discuss your ideas with the community or rant (within reason) about how writing has gotten in the way of life or vice versa. ;) It's basically a free-for-all post + writing check-in for those not participating in concrit + brainstorming on current or future projects. Currently one of the items still on the table to implement. (Possibly twice a month, depending on popularity.) It will be a members-only post since there will be talk of your projects.
Insane Challenge - Set up similar to me_challenge's Wednesday Insanity. Prompts to keep your muse flowing with various rules each posting (e.g. 'what wouldn't your character do', 'describe this', 'antagonist's worst nightmare', etc.). (Still in the planning stages. Tentatively scheduled for this Saturday. More on this later.) This post would be open to all and anyone can read it.
Weekends - Once we've worked out the concrit schedule, we'll have a master post of authors needing concrit for the previous week. Depending on weekend posts, this masterpost will probably be stickied each weekend.
We'll adjust the structure and the discussions on the table as needed. Feel free to offer opinions and suggestions.
