We survived!!

Oh god am I sore. I've not squeezed into a bodice and full kit for ev-ar and it hurts like mad. Plus I forgot my inserts for my shoes so being on my feet 12+ hours was painful...

But the Faire opened. La. Everything looks so loverly, everything seems to much happier this year. Perhaps it's the 'prop/inventory protection overnight on-site management and please keep the noise down, k thanx.' that helps but everyone seems to enjoy things despite the last minute rush to get things done before the crowds trickled in.

We had to butcher our awning to make it fit over our new showroom floor; that was excitingly interesting. Our new products seem to sell well even though we're out of furniture. Plus we have dinner served after hours again. Mmmm, Peyton's mashed potatoes.

There are a few familiar faces gone; leather masks by Lisa Brunner, Boar's Head Inn, Twig's Bent (apparently Bevin the Troll isn't opening his booth in protest to the sexy female trolls being kicked out for being too sexy - I'm sure not complaining about it. I'd love to see him go or at least billed as a madman who thinks he's a troll. Dammit, HISTORY! USE IT.) Rat Races didn't move with us last year, sadly. I think the 'no camping/no party' rule was the end of it for them even though their parties were always clean fun.

It's not even really 'camping' this year. It's onsite property protection. I know a few times at San Berdoo people had their onsite inventory broken into. And the Dam can't provide full protection overnight... so we're allowed to stay in our encampment and keep an eye on things. (Note: This isn't just some excuse. We heard people rummaging around our front tables where our benches were kept out overnight... we made enough noise inside the cottage to scare them off so who knows if they were fellow Faire-folk or locals who hopped the fence at night.) As long as things are quiet and calm, it'll be allowed. Once the wildness that San Berdoo had a reputation for is shown not to exist, they may permit organized gatherings. But we have to show LA that we're not sex-mad coke fiends. Sadly they were shown pictures SOMEONE got of a fetish party... even though said party was held in an enclosed area with ID being checked for age of consent... even though the group that did said party is no longer with us but it only takes one wild story like THAT to ruin things for the rest of us having 40s style swing dance parties, or glowstick parades, or having lightsaber duels by the lake-side, or just watching a movie.

Anyways, I've been asked to understudy for a classical performance duet. It's been ages since I've sung but it feels good to get back into it. I'm singing with the Easter choir next weekend at the period services being held and that should be fun. Acapella sight reading. Been forever... Next year a few of us ARE forming a madrigal group and I'm going to be in it. Wheeee.
