The second key room of the upstairs is of course Dirk’s studio. We’re currently in a situation where he’s in the largest room in the apartment, and the bedroom has been feeling the crunch, so occasionally I get gripey at him for taking all the space. This won’t be the case any more; now, he’ll occasionally get gripey at me because he’ll feel cramped. The two bedrooms (for sleeping and for studio) are about the same size, 12x12. The main difference is, the studio bedroom has no closet. I mean, I sweetly gave my husband the room with more wall-space for shelves. Also, he gets blue flowers and a bear instead of pink and Elvis.
I suspect his plan involves vibrant colors, like possibly orange paint. The nice thing about blue-grey-fleck short-pile carpet is that it doesn’t really clash with or complement anything, so you can more or less pretend it isn’t there.
Tasks in here: pull down white/blue wallpaper, fix one outlet with a loose ground wire, check to be sure he’s got a phone line (since Dirk is DSL-central) and enough grounded outlets, and paint the walls. We’d considered running a few cat5 cables while we were poking around in the walls and ripping down wallpaper and wood paneling, but the problem is that a house network is a star pattern from some central modem, which anybody except us is unlikely to want focused in the front bedroom. We’re mostly wireless anyway.
