A day of firsts
Today I went to work, and was given:
- a box of business cards! I've never had business cards before, not even ones I printed up myself, though there was the time I stuck a bunch of address-stickers on some cut-up index cards.
- my very first corporate paycheck! Apparently they trust me 2 days worth, since this includes two full weeks, through Friday.
- my purchasing account info, and promptly spent $1700 on lab parts. Another $2000 or so pending, once I get a few quotes.
Today is also the first time that I've accidentally let the cat outside, (our doorknob is busted and she wandered out while I was trying to fix it) and she was out there for about an hour before I heard a faint meowing and realized there was nowhere in the apartment that she could be and sound like that.
Also, today is my first day of waking up and not wanting to go to my new job. I so did not want to get out of bed this morning - as it turns out, I had good reason to; nagging dry cough and a bit of fever, as well as being exhausted. I might have to find out about sick days tomorrow; I hope not. Today I drank one of almost every kind of tea in the machine: earl grey, blueberry-echinacea, raspberry, lemon-herb, and Japanese green (though I didn't like that one so much and didn't finish it). I've had a chai many other days, so skipping that one doesn't count against my tally, leaving only the decaf english breakfast untried, and that's boring enough that it doesn't count. Basically, I was freezing cold all day, and drinking tea to stay warm - didn't figure out till I got home that I actually had a fever. I don't feel particularly terrible though, mostly achey and tired, so I'm hoping it'll be all better after I sleep for 12 hours or so.
But hey, for not feeling so hot, it was a remarkably productive day!
