On Wednesday, Dirk and I went back to our selected Forest Preserve site (yes, we got the picnic permit in the mail, so it's totally real and official now). He'd never actually seen the place, he was just taking my word for it that the site is awesome. I discovered it's more scenic than I knew.
As we were driving, less than a mile away from our destination, we saw this:
The Berwyn car-kabob has been the subject of a summer-vacation ad-campaign encouraging people to spend some time sightseeing locally, but eventhough I loved the photo, I admit I never seriously considered tracking the thing down... then stumbled onto it at random. Yay!
The thing that gets me is that it's just in a strip-mall parking lot. It's part of a public art commission, and apparantly there are several other sculptures - though I'm unclear as to whether that meant others in Berwyn purchased at the same time" or "other things in this shopping plaza". The idea of suburban strip-malls as the best place for a town to display their art is kind of scary.
