So, the advantage of March is that it gets people in the mood to consider Irish music as a cultural phenomenon, and once St. Patrick's Day itself is past, we can get down to business.
Aside from the sessions, I also play with Sean Smith and Steve Levy in
Corvus, a band that actually has rehearsals, and a name, and gigs that we play with a setlist made up in advance. It's very classy. Quite unlike my normal modus operandi.
We will be playing a set at
NEFFA folk festival in April. To support the organization and publicize the weekend, there is a
Showcase Concert in Somerville MA on March 23, at which we'll be playing a half-hour set. See the
Facebook event. NEFFA Showcase Concert featuring Lynn Noel, Corvus, Wear My Letter, and Marylou Ferrante
Friday, March 23 - 8:00pm
Unity Somerville, 6 William Street (corner College Ave, just north of Davis Square), Somerville
$15, $10 NEFFA members (join at neffa.org or at the concert).
Corvus rides again, this time with a whole set to call our own, 9 songs instead of 5, on Friday March 30. Steve Levy, our mandolin/banjo/etc player, teaches at the
Real School of Music, which has a lovely concert space. They've started hosting a Faculty Concert Series, so Corvus will be there trying to win over some mandolin students for Steve. The concert starts at 7 and I think we're on first.
The Real School is in Burlington MA, conveniently close to
H-Mart, so I predict that Dirk will be shopping for Asian groceries while I'm setting up.
