garlic garden excitement

In other news, I harvested my garlic yesterday!

We planted 4 Elephant garlics, 5 shallots, and 18 regular garlics last fall, and they were sprouting by winter, but survived just fine - lots one of each to rot, but that's the way it goes. The Elephant garlic made scapes in mid-June but the regular ones never did; I was waiting for that to happen, but no dice. The tops eventually turned brown enough that I decided I didn't want to find out what When to Harvest Garlic meant by "Putting off harvesting garlic until after the leaves are completely brown will only result in a inedible bulb." The resulting heads varied from about half-brown to (honestly) 90% brown, so maybe I'll find out the hard way.

D's in the kitchen making dinner with some right now, I think... dunno what bulb he chose. :)

And fyi, there are hornpipes on youtube I just haven't linked them yet... for now, time to go work...
