LHC
One of the first accelerators: just a few centimeters in diameter.
That's what inside of the accelerator tube: two small pipes where particles go in the opposite directiona.
There are four desks in the control room. Each desk controls a separate accelerator.
LHC consumes more power than the entire region of Geneva.

The ground floor of the CMS is just a large hangar. The detector is so heavy that only parts have been assembled here and then moved 100 meters down to the shaft.

It's not possible to store all of the produced data, only the "interesting" events are store, the rest of the data is filtered out automatically.

The old abandoned control room: people could not survive the smell of a fertilizer coming from the surrounding fields.
Strong magnetic field causes very strange effects here on the surface.
The "hottest place in the Galaxy" is right here, 100 meters below under the field...
