MK/DC (& future VP2) - Planning Ahead

What? I can't do cracky crossover plunnies?

Koizumi Akako led a charmed life. She was beautiful, intelligent, powerful, and obscenely lucky; and she took great pains to ensure that it stayed that way. The world was her oyster and every pearl in it was a man primed and ready to do her every bidding. Every man save one. It appeared as if the old tales were true: every black mage had their own cross to bear, and Kuroba Kaito was apparently hers. So far he'd resisted everything she'd thrown at him and then some. It was rather vexing. She'd even once toyed with the possibility of getting rid of him in a more permanent fashion, to the point where she had almost killed him. Sadly, she'd been unable to do the deed. He was just so infuriatingly likeable. It would be a waste to remove him from the face of existence, no matter how annoying he got. And really, killing him would be detrimental to her original goal. She wanted him to be her slave. Just because she was starting to favor the idea of him doing so willingly, didn't change that goal at all.

Which was why she had turned her library into a veritable disaster zone. Discarded books were scattered across ever surface in sight, including the floor, where odd sized tomes teetered in ever growing stacks. Cheating death was a subject that, for the most part, had been summarily forbidden by every single generation. Such censure was perfectly understandable. The search for immortality had only succeeded in delivering death unto the seeker for as far back as anyone could remember. Akako had a great deal of respect for her ancestors in that regard. They'd displayed an inordinate amount of common sense when they'd given that particular subject a hearty "fuck you". Who needed to live forever when rebirth was right around the corner?

No, immortality wasn't what she wanted. What she wanted was a surefire way to circumvent death. Kaito couldn't become her slave if he was dead, and every sign of late pointed to such an occurrence happening in the very, very near future. Lucifer had even had the gall to laugh at her when she's asked how it could be averted. It couldn't be stopped. The shadows that had been encircling for so long were closing in. Kaito's time was ticking away, as was her patience.

The only solution she'd managed to find was an ancient spell, almost faded into nothing, that had been stuck in an arcane history book as an example of primitive beliefs. It was spotty at best, but seeing as Akako was at her wits end, she'd take what she could get. According to the "spell", death would still occur - that was a necessity -, but would be reversed with the application of materialization. This "materialization" wasn't something that just anybody could do, of course not; but if anyone could pull it off then it would be her.

Only, the details were a bit... odd. Without direct divine will - divine? - she would need an object to focus the spiritual energies through. With the aid of divine will, any object would do. But there was no god involved here, thus she'd have to go with the poor man's version. As far as she could tell, anyone could materialize so long as they had the proper knowledge and the right object of focus. The list of suitable items was tiny, and four items were marked off at the very beginning. She'd never heard of a Dragon Orb or Gungnir. She didn't even know what they were, though she supposed that the Sylvan Bow was just that. Levantine on the other hand was as much of a blank as the first two. It was just as well, there was a warning on all of them to only risk using them upon the eve of Ragnarok. She knew what that was, and she knew what it meant. If a warning like that was issued, then it was in her best interest to heed it.

Okay, so that left her with three other objects of focus. The Ring of Mylinn was in the possession of a god, so that was out of the question. Brisingamen, a necklace, was also owned by a god, and thus, equally unattainable. That only left the final object: Glance Reviver. What the hell was a Glance Reviver?

Akako snarled and threw the book across the room. This was beyond frustrating. She should just let the idiot die. It would serve him right for causing her such endless headaches. But no, allowing it to happen would only weigh her down with bitter regret. She did not want to regret Kaito. He would be hers. "Calm," she murmured as she closed her eyes and gently rubbed at her temples, "I must be calm. Rushing things would only aid their purpose, not mine."

Nodding to herself, Akako opened her eyes and held her hands out before her, palms flat to the ceiling. "Knowledge is required. A collection of items unknown to the casual seeker." She smiled triumphantly as a book dislodged itself from one of the many piles dotting the floor and floated over to her. A simple summons like that was nothing to her. Death would not be an obstacle to her. She wouldn't allow it.

A meticulous search of the book's content delivered something of an explanation for the item. The Glance Reviver was an immaterial weapon materialized from the essence of death. There was that word again. Interesting. Materialization must have been an important step to rituals of the ancient past, but had been forgotten somewhere along the way. Akako briefly wondered why, then shrugged and went back to the business at hand.

The Glance Reviver could not be obtained through normal means. Well, that was obvious, otherwise there would be tales of hack wizards summoning it all the time. Normal means would not do, nor would abnormal ones it seemed. According to the book the weapon in question could only be materialized through the will of death itself. Death only showed up when people died. She couldn't wait until Kaito kicked it to get the item necessary to reverse the process. What else? What else? Oh, maybe that.

There were people in the world who had been touched by death indirectly and lived to tell the tale. Such people always ended up carrying around something or other because of it, usually a Reaper spirit. If she could just get her hands on one of those people, then she could extract the otherworldly apparition and have it materialize the Glance Reviver for her. Yes, that might work. Still, such an undertaking did have its own problems. Finding someone cursed by death would be easy enough, but using such was completely out of the question. People were cursed for a reason, and messing with a curse placed by death was asking for it. No, she'd have to go with someone blessed by it, which was much, much harder.

Death didn't give a shit about anything. Its job was to take, and that's exactly what it did regardless of the circumstances involved. It took something extremely rare to attract its attention long enough to receive a blessing from it, and such blessings were worse than curses. They guaranteed a long, eventful life at the expense of just about everyone around them. People who were blessed by death became hermits very quickly and tended to vanish at the drop of a hat. Finding someone like that would be a miracle unto itself.

That was it then. There was only so much she could do and Akako had just reached her limit. Kuroba Kaito was just out of luck. Kid's next heist would most likely be his last-

Wait. Heist.

It couldn't be that simple, could it? Akako leaned back and stared thoughtfully up at the ceiling as she sorted certain facts around in her mind for more intense perusal. Kaito, or rather, Kid wasn't that lucky, was he? Still, there was an alarmingly high body count attached to one of his, ah, more interesting acquaintances. Someone like that... One little boy couldn't stumble across so many corpses without something guiding his steps, and she knew well enough that there wasn't anything demonic involved. Most of them had gone on extended vacations away from Tokyo about a year or so ago. Akako wondered, if she compared dates would that unknown exodus coincide with the appearance of a creepy child detective?

It was an intriguing question, and one she'd probably be better off not knowing the answer to. If only Kaito weren't so likeable. Well, it was decided then. If she ended up dead because of it, she'd just have to haunt Kaito for the rest of his miserable existence.

Yeeeaaaahhh, this one will definitely have more added to it. *snerts*
