Once, a long time ago, the earth, the sun, and the water were all one. In fact, the entire universe was squeezed tight into a ball that fit perfectly into the palm of your hand. Things went on this way for many eternities, until a part of the whole decided it would be nice to look upon itself from a different point of view. So it gathered up a bit of itself and began to circle around the rest. Realizing soon after that it was to dark to see anything; it began to let out a steady stream of light as it slowly encompassed what was left behind, showing itself in celebrated detail. This became the sun.
When the sun shone its light on the part down below, it let out a certain warmth as well. This heat was accepted joyously by the outer layer of what was left and it began to sway and rock on good feeling, moving slowly at first and then more forcefully, rolling in and out of itself, carving canyons out of rock, and collecting in shallow pools before overflowing and continuing on. This became the water.
Even though it tickled just a bit, the land beneath began to enjoy when the water rushed or trickled over it that way and the heat of the sun shining hard unto it’s surface made it feel very content and well. It decided to stay just where it was. This became the Earth.
In the beginning, each part remembered that they were all connected, but over time they began to forget where they had come from. One day they even began to believe they were three separate things all together. Knowing they could not let this happen, they devised a plan to help them remember.
Water would freeze itself to the earth in the absence of sunlight. They would share stories and wait for the warmth to return. As the water began to melt, it would rise up toward the sun, bringing the secrets and the poems of the land and in exchange it would carry the voice of the sun back to the earth by way of rain.
So the cycle of life began. The sun and the earth and the rain all did their separate parts, never forgetting that they belonged to something much larger than themselves. They went on and on this way, creating and recreating a world that in turn created something as wonderful as you.
