Watching the group is the best idea so you get the updates of when sign ups are open (I post a journal to sign up in once a month but also post a pic for people who don't read journals). Then you sign up and draw your pic in a month. You can watch and never ever sign up and draw, you can join and draw and never watch (but you better be diligent in checking for updates or rule changes in the journals).
Basically... sign up, you get a month to draw, no extensions, I ban people who don't do their work and will not unban them until I see physical proof of the completed work posted on FA. I'm a big bitch, I today just told someone off and told them to either re-do their badge or get out of my group for giving an rushed and half-assed badge.
We allow all levels of ability as long as it's obvious you tried your best, so if you are a beginner and you tried as hard as you could you are welcome to join... if you scribble a 3scond picture you get a banhammer.
I've had one person get mad because they thought their art was worth $40 for a badge but the person the random generator I used was a beginner (who actually posted what in my opinion was one of their best pieces) so I told them not to join again and take commissions instead.
babble babble. Post to my sign up journal on the community about 7 to 10 days before the month starts and your in. :) I note everyone and I use a random internet secret santa generator so their is no personal bias.
I also post a journal to post your finished product too for our records but also ask you note or comment to the person you get so they see it.
