On top of that, I saw boys who should be girls and girls who should be boys, all believing that they were dragons or royalty

I'd hardly say these Deities are here for us, for the record. Or there, in our own world. If there are Gods, or the singular notion, they aren't the sort to look out for their kind. For that definition of believing in them, I put more stock in my own capabilities.
