computer

I feel vaguely socially broken; I left for work Thursday morning and only made it home a couple of hours ago, mostly because I've been using dorm bandwidth to download Gentoo. It's going well, but I am ridiculously happy with absurd little things like figuring out how to set compiler flags through Gentoo's package manager, and being able to copy all my data from the old computer over nfs. It's still a day or two before my computer will boot X. And while I really like Gentoo so far, they should make it easier to file bugs.

This is also the grand week of cruft. Not counting the new bike, I've managed to pick up a B&W G3 from one source, a matching monitor and keyboard from a different one, a Sun VGA monitor from a third, and a lovely Indy which I'm probably not l33t enough to make work. The Indys were the first Unix workstations that I remember, and I am bemused to find them cruftworthy, and to realize that I think of them as hardcore machines without having any clue what their specs are.
