well... back to work today... and into a turn-around - Woo Hoo!!
I need to jet soon so I can make it to work a bit early (extra paperwork to do today), but as a veteran I feel it is imperative that I say something about this holiday that most people just take for granted. When you hear of Memorial Day, most people just think one of three things: 1) 3-day weekend!, 2) the 'official' beginning of Summer!, or 3) a time to get really good deals on furniture or a new car!
I really feel that people have completely forgotten the *TRUE* meaning of this holiday! I asked one of my servers the other day what she thought Memorial Day was all about, and she said 'Some sort of military holiday'... *sigh* Another thought it was just another version of Veterans Day... this is the stuff I'm talking about... nobody remembers any more!
On the plus side, the average person on my friends list is actually pretty damn smart... so I'm assuming that everyone knows the actual purpose of this day. For those of you who don't (as this is a public post, not a private one), Memorial Day is the day we set aside as a nation to honor *ALL* those military persons that have died in the line of duty. ALL of them. From the first soldier that died Revolutionary War, to the soldier in Iraq or Afghanistan that died to some IED or insurgent bullet, and every tussle, skirmish, battle, 'police action', or war between.
Fuck you people if you don't see that the ones dying today are ensuring that your children will live tomorrow in a world hopefully free of terrorism and intolerance - religious or political.
And while I'm a HUGE supporter of the freedom of speech, I'm glad that the President is signing into law a ban on protests at military funerals. There are a bunch of jerk-offs apparently from Kansas City that are prostesting at the funerals of kids that are killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, saying that they were killed because Americans tolerate homosexuality.
Because we, a nation CREATED BASED ON THE PRINCIPLE OF RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE, are actually tolerating homosexual activities and it goes against THEIR RELIGIOUS beliefs - they say God is killing our soldiers.
This is a very good example of why I quit religion and church.
If there is a God, then he better send every one of those useless fucks to hell.
Happy Memorial Day, everyone!! If you know anyone that has lost a family member in uniform, call them, e-mail them, get in touch with them somehow and let them know that you appreciate the sacrifice they made on your behalf. Try not to let their deaths be in vain.
