Fans of color/non-white fans: there are a number of free con memberships available now, first-come first-serve, but I want to highlight these ones that need to be claimed very soon, as soon as tomorrow (October 6) in one case:

  • GeekGirlCon, October 8 & 9, 2016, Seattle, WA, USA. GeekGirlCon celebrates and honors the legacy of women contributing to science and technology; comics, arts, and literature; and game play and game design by connecting geeky women world-wide and creating community to foster continued growth of women in geek culture through events.

GeekGirlCon has donated ten passes to Con or Bust, of which eight have been claimed; an individual has also donated one membership. These must be claimed by Thursday, October 6, 2016, 3 p.m. Eastern.

  • Octocon 2016, 14th- 16th October, 2016, Dublin, Ireland. Octocon is the National Irish Science Fiction Convention; its Guests of Honor are Rhianna Pratchett, Diane Duane and Peter Morwood and its 2016 theme is Rebellion.

Octocon has donated two memberships to Con or Bust, which have been claimed. An individual has donated a third, which is still available and must be claimed by October 12, 2016.

  • Sirens, October 20-23, 2016, Denver, CO, USA. Sirens is a conference dedicated to the diverse, remarkable women of fantasy literature: readers, authors, scholars, librarians, educators, publishing professionals, and characters. Its 2016 theme is lovers, and its guests of honor are Renée Ahdieh, Laurie J. Marks, and Kiini Ibura Salaam.

Sirens has donated three scholarships to Con or Bust, which include a full registration to Sirens and a Sirens Shuttle ticket; one remains available. The registration gives attendees access to everything from Thursday afternoon to Sunday, including all Guest of Honor keynote addresses. The shuttle ticket covers ground transportation to and from the Denver airport to the Inverness Hotel (more info, including schedule). The scholarships do not include tickets to the pre-conference events of the Sirens Studio and Sirens Supper; transportation to Denver; or hotel costs. It must be claimed before the con (registration can be done at the door).

  • World Fantasy Convention 2016, 27 - 30 October 2016, Columbus, OH, USA. The World Fantasy Convention is an annual gathering (almost a reunion) of professionals, collectors, and others interested in the field of Light and Dark Fantasy art and literature. The 2016 Guests of Honor are Mercedes Lackey, Larry Dixon, L.E. Modesitt, Jr, and Randal Spangler.

Individuals have donated three transferred memberships to Con or Bust. (Another transferred membership has been claimed.) These must be claimed in time for the donor to write a letter transferring the membership and scan+email, fax, or snail-mail it to the recipient.

  • Eurocon/Bcon 2016, 4, 5 & 6 November 2016, Barcelona, Spain. Eurocon is the annual European science fiction convention; Bcon is the 2016 Spanish national convention Hispacon happening alongside the Eurocon.
