- NIFTY FIREFOX EXTENSION ALERT -
FoxyTunes is a Firefox extension which allows you to control your favorite media player from within Firefox while you're surfing the web. Neat idea, right? Switch tracks as you surf without alt-tabbing over to iTunes or WiMP.
Well, then the author added about a million features.
With FoxyTunes running, I can use my computer as an alarm clock. Queue up a playlist, set FoxyTunes' Alarm Clock function for the desired time, disable the screen, and my computer will wake me up nice and gentle in plenty of time to be outside for formation. It's darn hard to find a free program that will do this well--who would've thought you'd find it in a Firefox extension?
Today Alex Sirota released version 2.0 of FoxyTunes, including such gadgets as the FoxyTunes MiniPlayer (FoxyTunes isn't just for Firefox anymore!); automated artist and lyric search on Wikipedia, iTunes, flickr, Amazon, eBay, and more; and podcast support. FoxyTunes even supports a number of
skins you can use to change its appearance. It works with Firefox, Thunderbird, Seamonkey, and Mozilla. And, of course, it's all free.
