Today was such a wonderful day.
My family came to see me. Here on base. My birthday is in just under a week, so we drove into Tucson and went shopping for my birthday present; they got me a combo pack of Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premiere Elements. Then we came back to the base and I gave them a complete tour--I showed them where I live, where I work, and the Ground Floor where my friends hang out. I introduced them to a bunch of people, and my friend Sarah was there even though she said she'd be at a party. After the worship service, we had a jam session; I, who had never so much as rapped two drumsticks together, sat down at the drum set and figured it out. Drumming is fun! My dad was a drummer, when the hills were young, so he gave me some pointers, and at one point it just clicked, and there I was contributing to a jam session between two guitarists and a professional classical pianist. Too awesome.
Then my family took me out to Chili's and we dined upon meat and tortillas. We talked about how far we'd come from three years ago, almost to the day, when we arrived in Azusa, my sister and I fresh from high school in St. Petersburg. I was just figuring out how to shop for myself and lonely as all get-out. One year ago today I was preparing to graduate from Boot Camp and marching around Lackland AFB in my blues. Today I am a fully-functioning adult, who can drive, work, love, and play.
I've come a long way. And the best is yet to come.
I love my family so much.
