So I was running a scan on my lapop and all the thousands of file names were flashing by as they do. I just happened to glance at the screen and in one of them I saw the word "keylogger". It went by too fast for me to register anything else about it.
The scan came up clean. I've got McAfee, Norton, SpywareDoctor and another anti-malware thing I downloaded. They all come up clean all the time apart from a few"low-risk" tracking cookies.
The laptop was a present from my ex - Is it possible he put spyware on there? Well, I mean obviously it's possible (though he doesn't seem the type) - but are there other explanations, like it came in with an email or something? Could it be from someone who doesn't even know me, who tries to spy on random strangers to get their bank details etc? (I haven't been victim to any fraud etc yet as far as I know). Could there be a file in there with "keylogger" in its name that isn't a keylogger (e.g. it's actually part of the anti-virus thing, looking FOR keyloggers. . .?). And if it is spyware why do none of the scans pick up on it? My ex is the only person apart from me who's ever had actual physical access to the computer. And he hasn't even had that for at least a year.
Any explanations? Or suggestions for what I can do? Is there a failsafe way of getting rid of these things?
