text to speech conversion

Jul 13, 2010 17:08

I want to find a really good text-to-speech conversion program - one that allows me to listen to text as an audio file - I already have one method (a MS Word add-on that allows me to convert a text document to a file that can be read by a program, but it sounds mechanical and isn't very pleasant to listen to...). Does anyone have a suggestion?

AT&T Naturally Speaking, and Dragon, which is actually the other way around (Speech to text), but has a TTS engine as well.

There are screen readers, of course -- JAWS has a trial version that you can run as many times as you want, but it will only run for 45 minutes before shutting down and in order to restart the program, you have to restart the computer. WindowsEyes and Supernova/Dolphin are two other screen readers.

I suggest Naturally Speaking, though. It sounds like it fits your criteria the best. I once had a free program, but I don't remember the name of it...and it wasn't very good.
