In watching the Michael Jackson memorial (thanks to my husband) I was reminded of a few things. Not only did he try to change the world with his music and philanthropy, his favourite song was Smile. Further to my surprise, I learned that Smile was written by Charlie Chaplin. I knew he was a comedian of sorts in his silent films but had absolutely no clue he was a writer.
Possibly the best (lyrical) advice for these days where it seems like lots of people you know are finding the times tough.
Smile
by Charlie Chaplin
Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though its breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through for you
Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, whats the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, whats the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile
