For the people with no idea of the comedy Kath and Kim offer in the Aussie version, here's a short 3 minute clip of a few funny moments.

(Sorry for the repeated end - why the hell do people do that on some clips? There's a rewind feature for a reason.)
And this is what the US Suits offered as the American counterpart:

It's not just about which country it's made in. What makes me suspicious about how bad it will be is:
- Dodgy casting (Poor Blair. I loved her in the Hellboy movies! Kim's supposed to be chubby, semi-skanky and horrible. Blair isn't a good fit.)
- Studio reminders about how successful they WERE FOUR YEARS AGO when they IMPORTED ANOTHER SHOW. Obviously they're smart enough not to mention "Thank God You're Here" which tanked horribly.
- Studio reminders about how the original is Australia's #1 show, so it WILL BE America's. Right? I wouldn't bet money on it.
- Catchphrases. Good shows don't need "Apparently, you can go home again." or "We remade good shows before! Now we're doing it again!" to be watched.
If you really want hits America, here's two EASY solutions:
- Be ORIGINAL
or
- IMPORT ORIGINALS from other countries, do NOT do remakes! Flukes are flukes! Amazingly, "The Office" worked. You want a list of what bombed?
(Red Dwarf USA, Thank God You're Here, Crocodile Dundee [at least once he hit L.A], Nutt House [AKA Fawlty Towers USA], Flight of the Concords' HBO show, Doctor Who [1996 before 2005 the UK did it successfully], Mad Max[redub and sequels]...the list goes on. And I only listed past mistakes too. "Life On Mars" and "The Worst Week of My Life" from the UK are almost remade too. I've already posted LOMUS' trailer.)
On a plus side, the actor playing Kel must have at least seen a bit of his counterpart's gestures and patterns to get the role down so similarly. Aside from this, it looks VERY shaky.
Eventually they might get the idea from other shows like Heroes(despite that just being a comic book mix and match with "X-Men"(2000) as the locale). Or Bionic Woman (er, which is a remake of an old show). Or Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles (er, which adds to T2, a 17 year old film...). Okay, or maybe films like Transformers (based on an old cartoon...). Or Indiana...er...or Star W...hm. Or Star Tr...argh!
Wake me up when another fresh idea arrives. If and when.
