Sometimes I amaze myself with my stupidity…
A few days ago I discovered that a headlight in one of my vehicles had burned out. Yesterday, I went to an auto parts store and found the correct bulbs and also got an air filter for both of my vehicles. Today, I took the time to change the filters and the bulbs, turned the headlights on - still burned out. So I swapped lights around - still burned out.
Suddenly, a startling realization hit. My vehicle, a 2001 Dodge Intrepid, had separate bulbs for low and high beams. I had efficiently changed 2 HIGH BEAM bulbs, and realized the burned out bulb was a LOW BEAM. So, back to the auto parts store, much to the amusement of the manager of the store. He said, “You have one of the few cars that has separate bulbs - and they don’t even make it clear which is which”. I then changed out the low beams and lo and behold - 4 working headlights!
And for those that asked, yes I did RTFM (Read the F***ing Manual), but even there it does not make clear which is which.
I have now marked which is which for the next time this happens - which hopefully will not be for quite a while.
