Tonight I went to the movie theater intending to see American Gangster at 7:45. I arrived sometime around 7:10 since I was kicked out of Wal Mart, basically. The old lady working there didn't like me talking to Brent Mathis. He's totally hating the job, so I figured I'd give him some company.
Anywho, I arrived at the theater at 7:10 and asked to see American Gangster. They basically said that wouldn't work out. BUT I GOT FREE TICKETS TO SOMETHING ELSE! Woo. I saw Beowulf...
Basically, the story starts off very quickly. Beowulf is already at sea and soon to meet Grendel. I was very quickly turned off by the presentation of the movie, however. It's all digital. However, after the scene where Grendel totally massacres the mead hall, the digital art had grown on me. I didn't expect it to seem that impressive after I had seen the beginning of the movie... I guess that was intentional. "Hey guys, don't forget to make the beginning look totally bad so then everything else looks totally good. K." lol. There's so many parts of that movie that are unintentionally funny, as well. To add to that, we had some funny peeps in the theater. During one quiet scene where Beowulf is walking through a pass with HUGE rocks a fellow theater attendant says "It's a giant boulder" in a swell english accent. I liked. Early in a movie the king states "We don't need (Jesus), we need a hero!" where the refusal of Jesus is a reply to a fellow nobleman's questioning of who they should attempt praying too. The nobleman stated Jesus as "The Romans' new god". This amused me. (SPOILER ALERT! DON'T READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU DON'T ALREADY KNOW THE BEOWULF TALE!) Later in the movie where Beowulf has totally killed the dragon, but everything is going to shit and is still chaotic and he's plummeting to his death everything gets quiet as you watch him and the dragon fall to their doom. In this quiet I state "Shoulda went with Jesus". I found it very opportune. Hehe.
Well, I think YOU should go check it out. See just how much you enjoy the art style and such. I really liked the voicework.
