This is a doggy-dog year and the first quarter already seemed hectic and promising.
It seemed only yesterday that I was struggling to start up the programme and to adapt to my new job. This year marks the final year of our programme, our fate remains uncertain still and lays largely in the hands of our various supervisors and HODs. Am leaving everything in the hands of God. Today was a bad work day. The database crash, the girls had conveniently forgot to perform the routine back up and they ganged up to put the blame on me. Fortunately, we lost only 2 weeks worth of data (since that was the last time I did the back up), our poor data entry clerk would have to re-do his past week's worth of work all over again.
Note to self: Always put everything in writing. Verbal agreements cannot be trusted, especially if you are working with 2 goldfishes.
Tomorrow will be a better day.
Am off to Angkor Wat tomorrow morning. An early flight on Silkair that would bring us there in time for lunch. Hoping to catch a famed magnificant sunset there and seek out Lara Croft.
Heading to Sydney come March for a heady 3 day conference where I have been accepted to do an oral presentation on our work. Will worry about it when the time comes (crossing my fingers that the venue for presentation will be a small cosy room rather than an intimidating ballroom). Will also do some catch ups with friends and relatives there, can't wait to head out to the Fisherman's wharf for some good 'ol fish and chips and to Chinatown for some of the best dim sum outside Hong Kong.
What I am really looking forward to is April. Yes, we are going to explore central Honshu, Japan.....again. Hopeful to catch more than a glimpse of Fuji-san, stay in a traditional
Gassho-styled farmhouse in Shiragawa, catch the
Takayama Spring festival before heading to
Kanazawa for some zen and geisha culture. All this in 10 days via the shinkensan.
Will be busy doing write-ups and posting them at Igougo. Bet the editors will be thrilled....
Snooze time....tomorrow will be a good day!
