[series]: Paradise Kiss
[character]: Yukari "Caroline" Hayasaka
[character history / background]:
A typical story of a girl with a normal, bland life, doing everything her parents expect of her, Yukari wasn't anything more than average, at school or in anything else. Trained from a young age to 'be number 1' at whatever she does, though to not much avail-- she was raised by a stern mother who expected nothing but the best from her, causing Yukari to live the drone life of a student day after day, cramming to get into a university while not thinking much of her own wants or dreams (except perhaps, quietly crushing on her handsome classmate Hiroyuki Tokumori--but really, nearly falling off a cliff edge while trying to take a picture of him like a stalker isn't really something she ought to be talking about.)
Everything takes a turn for the weird, however, when she finds herself chased by a young man with a safety pin stuck in his lip and eyebrow, and then fainting in the arms of a gorgeous transvestite. Pretty soon, it becomes apparent that her pretty face and long legs are of some good to them and technically "kidnapped", she meets with the designers of the Paradise Kiss label for the first time-- to be their model. Initially rejecting the idea, she's then approached by the charming George Koizumi, who turns out to be everything and nothing like she would imagine as someone to be attracted to, and soon her life suddenly gains a little more colour to it when she discovers that there's a whole new world of not only education, but beauty and excitement that she feels will soon become her calling.
This sums it up quite nicely otherwise!
[character abilities]: Complaining, looking good in haute couture outfits, texting at high speed, slacking off, not studying, being an average student... yeah.
[character personality]:Judgemental would probably sum her up pretty well. Not exactly the most flattering thing to notice about a person, but one that definitely stands out for her through most of the trials she goes through. When we first meet her, she's a rigid, seemingly passionless student aiming to impress her mother by conceding to her demands and living her life in a regulatory manner. She has no direction other than what she's been told she ought to do, and she doesn't seem to pursue her own wants well until she realises there's a whole world outside her shell that she has yet to explore.
This, of course, is only one side of her-- she isn't a bad person at heart, and with her introduction into the Paradise Kiss crew, she's shown to be understanding, or at least attempting to be so about the people who are giving her new and interesting motivations after initially judging them as not being as serious about their goals as she is. Sometimes though, it seems as though her flaws outweigh her attributes-- she can be incredibly selfish, demanding, jealous and temperemental especially with her boyfriend George, who she lusts over almost immediately after having met him and expects him to feel more for her than she's willing to give. She's also quick to frustration, often judging George for the things he doesn't do for her as opposed to the things that he does (though often times, it's not without good reason) but she is quick to blame others and complain about things instead of taking initiative or focusing on her education. This sees a change in time when she realises her own wants and she stops taking an escapist route to achieve her dreams and confronts her controlling mother about wanting to pursue a modelling career.
Her seriousness however, is also a positive trait in a way, resulting in a personality that is both attractive and difficult. She does mean well for those she cares for, and beneath her defensive nature, she's still very much an impressionable young girl trying to adapt to a life she's never really known before, and a romance that's nothing like in stories. She's also prone to crying when she finds herself at a loss, but she's able to pick herself back up and face her goals again, and eventually ends up determined to make something of herself, as well as learning about where to make sacrifices and where to follow her heart.
[point in timeline you're picking your character from]: Some time after the high school contest, before the dinner party.
