new computer class

Sitting here in my first Microcontroller class, and I am the only girl out of 18 students. I begin to see Jorge's reasoning that being a female in a highly technical field will work out well for me. The general population I will come into contact with will be above average intellect by nature of the work, and I will have my pick of the litter. Of course, if I were simply seeking a physically appealing specimen, that narrows the odds quite a bit, but even then, I am far outnumbered.

I find it interesting though. I am reasonably confident that I can be close to or at the top of the class, and I look forward to turning the stereotype inside out for all these guys. Plus, I can have the same fun I did over the summer, and stay girly with the projects I undertake. Just cause I want to beat the boys doesn't mean I have to become one.

It will help that there are two guys here that were in my Data Structures group last semester, so I know they at least will not underestimate me. Hopefully, word of my competence will spread without my having to make a point of it. I kind of like it when people underestimate me at first and then slowly come to realize that I'm generally pretty comfortable with the subject matter.
