So I have started my campaign against the use of trans fats on Smith's campus. I wrote the director of dining services a nice well thought out email last night explaining why they should not be on our campus and that many schools do perfectly fine (and still have tasty treats) without them. Harvard has not had any trans fatty foods for ten years! So I know what you're thinking, oh no our cookies, cakes, muffins (and yes, all of the mixes smith uses contain hydrogenated oils.. ie: Trans Fats). Well you will be happy to know that you can make the same tasty treats without the trans fats and they taste exactly the same (if not better). The homemade stuff can be made with oil or BUTTER as opposed to shortening and margarine. I also stated that students should at least be aware of what foods contain trans fatty acids so they can make educated choices themselves... and alternatives should be provided (kind of like the vegan/vegetarian or peanut allergy thing. I think I am going to make a smith community post and start gathering more support for my quest but I want to hear back from dining first, see what they say.
anyways so today are the massachusetts primaries.. too bad I can't vote because I didn't register in timeee... I am rooting for Hilary as the Democratic Candidate because while I love Obama, I think Hilary will get things done and right now that is what our country needs. Obama is definately a good presidential candidate. just not yet. It would be awesome if they could be running mates but I don't see that happening.
okk well i should read for medical ethics before class!
