I survived, with minimal damage. :D
Ok, so, be warned, this is gonna be a shitty re-cap. I'm awful with songs and orders and there are hardly any photos, none of FOB and the ones I have are crappy quality. My camera is a bitch. My friend Bree, who I went with, got some ok-ish pics, so I might post them at some point.
We went early, got there about 9am-ish, there was lots of waiting and boring-ness. Bree had ~connections so were able to go straight to the front, with the people that stayed overnight. Probably not nice of us, but we didn't really care. ;)
At about 3pm-ish we went to see the bands drive into the venue. AAR and Hey Monday were in white min-vans, and they waved at use, that was cool. Then FOB came by in a silver people carrier, and we almost missed them because we were looking for another white van. But it was cool, I saw Andy. \O/ ;D
There was a huge upset because Optus had a competition on for under 18s. They gave away 400 free tickets, with early entry. People were so pissed about it. The OCKs were worried they were gonna go in before them, and the GA people were pissed they got to go in first when they didn't even have to pay anything. Basically, it was a huge mess. When the Optus people were going in, they had to walk past the GA people, and they were just being abused. People were shouting all sorts, asking if they even knew what band they were seeing, the lead singer's name, if they could name any songs. And they were being judged so hard. But seriously, there were little kids there, ridiculously young [under 10, maybe around 7] with their parents, and some girls were wearing short dresses and heels. Way ridic. And these people were going into the pit.
This is a poster in the GA tent that someone wrote on.
Doors opened at about 7:20pm. I was actually at the very front [\O/] and with Bree, and we joined forces with this guy, Daniel, when his friends won M&G at the last minute. It was kinda bad for him because he only came for them, and he was really worried about the pit and everything. We reassured him and everything, told him to stick with us, it was cool. When we got in, I was one person back at the barrier, on the right side of the stage, but by the time FOB were on, I was at the barrier, and had moved in a bit.
Hey Monday came on first, and it was good. We actually had space to move quite a bit at this point. I think I was one of the few-ish people who even knew who they were, and knew the words to their songs. The girls in front of me asked me what their names were, so I pointed them out, that was cool. ;) Cassadee is totally adorable, they kinda all are. She was very bouncy. Mike was on my side on the stage, but Jersey and Alex came over for a bit.
My only half-decent pic.
In the break between HY and AAR, the AAR boys came out and were hanging around the sound-thing area. I noticed straight away, and started jumping excitedly, and pointing them out to Bree and Daniel. They may have thought I was slightly mad. ;) I saw Chris first, and then it was a while before I even noticed Nick. Then Mike was there, and Tyson. \
Their set was great, a lot more people knew the music, and were getting into it more [the pit got denser here] and there were two trippings! Tyson was walking backwards, and tripped on something, fell flat on his back with the mike stand between his legs. It was way funny, but he kept singing through it, very awesome. When he turned over to get up, his trousers came down a bit [I am so pervy, I was very excited by this.] Then, a few minuets later, Mike was climbing back up to the stage [there was a ledge just down from it] and he missed, and fell onto it. I think some people missed that, but he was right in front of us. He went straight to Chris's drums stand and just played to him for a while, it was sweet, poor embarrassed Mike. <3 Chris was awesomely not wearing a shirt, and was barefoot. This amused me for some reason. ;D
In the break before FOB, they pulled down this black curtain thing in front of a FOB banner, but it got caught on something, so a guy had to actually climb up there and get. The crowd were cheering for him, it was great, but scary high. Also, they played a Tyga song [coconut juice], which I sang along with, and pointed out to Bree, but she was like 'who?'. Whatever, it made me happy. ;)
By this time, I was at the barrier. When FOB finally came on, they have a bunch of strobe lights, which were annoying, but it was pretty exciting. Pete was on my side on the stage, though I kinda would have preferred to be on Joe's side, but it was probably easier for hearing what he was saying. And Joe came over a few times. Someone posted the set list
here. Cassadee came out sing for a bit on a song [Sugar??? I have no idea :\] and that was cool. Andy was intense, and he had his head down, with his hair in his face most of the time. He had his light blue FC drums, which made me very happy :D, and I had to explain what FC was to a few people.*
Patrick was amazing. I loved his little banging foot, he kept tapping it along with the music. He even said something at one point, though I missed what it was, then Pete said something back, and then Joe. Joe! He just has the most adorable voice, I love it. ;D Joe and Pete were spinning and moving and doing awesome jump-y things across the stage. And Patrick moved around some too.
Pete mentioned some things that were awesome. He talked about Gabe for a bit. There was a story about Pete's new purple shoes, and Gabe being the go-to guy of things that are purple. Gabe said 'purple's out', and 'if you act like something's cool, then it's not', because he fucking says so. And Gabe is apparently the best guy to drunk-dial, because he's always around and drunk? Or something? It was funny, but I'm butchering it, sorry. ;)
And oh! Patrick sung Lullabye[/HoneyIsForBees]! It was awesome. Bree hadn't heard it and I had been talking about it earlier [Bandom hangman! \O/]. Pete introduced it by talking about the awesomeness of Patrick, calling him a 'human jukebox' and I'm pretty sure he said something about Patrick writing it. Though he could've just meant the music because there was maybe something about Pete posting the lyrics awhile ago on his blog?? No idea.
Near the end, [or the last song?] Pete went into the crowd, and Mike [from Hey Monday] came and played bass for the song. Which is weird because he plays guitar, and I'm sure it was Mike and not Jersey. Maybe he plays both? Or maybe I was just getting really mixed up. [I was just so tired at this point.] Or maybe he wasn't playing bass? I'm awful and cannot tell guitars and basses apart. There was a lot of switching instruments though. There was a bit where the lights went off and Joe, Patrick and Pete all had flashing lights on their instruments. And Pete's main bass has a clan logo. <3
But! There was a cameraman filming throughout, and Pete told there is going to be a DVD coming! No idea when, or whatever, but he told us to shout something and I'm pretty sure I was caught on film. :\
Some annoying things:
-There were two girls in front of me at the start, who both had their hair out, and it was scratchy and curly and I kept getting my [sweaty, very gross] hand caught in it. I'm pretty sure I [accidentally] yanked out a few hairs. :\
-The general dirty/sweatyness of the pit. So very disgusting. And being pressed so close to people I don't know. I knew it was happen [how could I not?] but it was still unpleasant. There was definite grinding that I would very much like to forget. ;)
-There was this girl just behind me and Bree who actually bopped Daniel on the head because she wanted to take a picture where his head was. I starred at her incredulously for a while, and maybe elbowed a bit. [/evil]
-The security guys were spraying water at us [generally a good thing] but there was this really douchey one who kept getting me in the face, when I was actively trying to cover it, because of my glasses. Seriously, my t-shirt was pretty damp and they just smeared horribly when I would try to wipe them dry. I would've taken them off, but I have awful eyesight, and it gives me headaches, they are very much needed full time.
There were probs some other stuff, but I can't really remember/don't really care.
Oh yeah! I'm actually glad I didn't win a M&G because they actually missed the opening bands. It was so badly organised. They were happening while the other bands were playing. The OCKs came in at a different place to GA & Optus, and the OCKs with EE came in after the Optus people, and the barrier was just cleared a bit at the side, which wasn't good. Major fail.
So yeah, I had an awesome time, but dunno if I would do it again. If I hadn't got so close to the barrier, I would've had a much suckier time, so that was really lucky. And tbh, I still prefer perfectly produced CDs to live music, this was a good experience. ;)
* When we were waiting for the vans to come into the venue, someone started talking about something or other, and it lead to asking about if Patrick had a girlfriend. Then Bree jumps in with 'yes, Alex told me he does!' and then me admitting I had pictures on my iPod. I'd never felt so creepy, ok. I was very embarrassed. I brought up the picture I had, then the girl grabbed my iPod and started scrolling through all the picture, and even more embarrassing, I had ALL of my bandom pics on their. I very nearly ran away. ;) Seriously, I have picture of Joe&Marie, Patrick&Elisa, and Andy with the FC guys, and one of Matt very nearly naked. She was mostly laughing, but I was SO red and felt SO creepy.
Also! The girl saw a picture of Tyler, and said he was at the airport with Andy! This also made me very happy. ;)
So yeah, now I just need to catch up on my two-days-worth of missed flist, and overdue comments. ;)
