But that's okay because I have had jack all to do this week. Apart from write an essay on Shakespeare... but screw that.
Instead I've played Ratchet and Clank, nostalgia'd, and now I'm making a mix to inspire/inform my Creative Writing. Which is harder to do than it sounds because I'm not working off any concrete material, like a fanmix does, it's all very nebulous. I kind of need depressing stuff, I guess. Or with a slightly skewed/different outlook on life, the universe, and everything. And it doesn't have to sound dark in and of itself - for example, I'm totally using Foster The People's Pumped Up Kicks because it totally informs one of the characters and it's a damn catchy song.
I don't take direct inspiration from music, really. I can't really fulfil the intention of a song any better than the song-writer, really, because it's not my impetus to. I use songs to help me find the best narrative voice and atmosphere I can - it's an association thing. If I think a certain pop song fits the intention I have for a character, their personality or the general style with which I write them will reflect that.
That said, I'm kind of drawing a blank for this mix right now :S Know any songs about anger and/or being adrift in life?
edit; Well, Hello there, New Character. You sound a lot like Emilie Autumn.
