I haven't been on Quads since elementary school! Love blades, but quadssss I don't know... and I've never been good at stopping and I'm a huge klutz lol..
but they'll usually teach you all these things! you learn totally new ways to stop, which are new to everyone who hasnt skated derby- t-stops and most importantly, plow stops. does your local team have a fresh-meat recruiting period? i hadnt been on quads since i was 14, just a decent bit of rollerblading myself, and after a couple months of practice, i'm almost at the top of the class. some of the girls are really struggling, have never been skaters. Some will and some won't pass the WFTDA testing, but thats what that's there for, to make sure you learn the needed skills
( ... )
the first practice i went to was hell. i couldnt keep up with the pace line, couldn't stop, i looked like a flailing goof, and i dressed incorrectly so i was pretty much miserable. but for some reason i went back again the next week. i'm so glad i did. i caught up and moved past. chances are, there's going to be someone worse than you. (especially if you're comfortable with blades!)
oh, not to mention all the really cool women you meet. suddenly i have more friends than i know what to do with. craziness.
aww you should at least look into it! go to a freashmeat session or two!
whoa! i was poking around online (since it's more fun than working) and i see that your team in albuquerque is already a wftda member! that's really awesome. our teams are our the waiting list for a sponsor league. we hope to accepted as an apprentice league by later this winter.
