Dad's in town, it's cause for livejournalfication! I don't know what that means, but it seemed to work well, aurally speaking. Maybe not.
Yeah, so my dad got back to the Windy City yesterday and he'll be staying with us (meaning me and the ants) until this coming Sunday. In our short time together he has asked if I had learned enough Spanish from my self-instructional course to teach him how to talk to the Mexicans he employs (P.S. They're legitimately Mexican; I would never let my self use that term indiscriminately to mean any Hispanic people unless I had verified their nation of origin, just so you know, you know). He's also called Chicago his "home" at least a thousand times, and said "Gold Coast" almost as much. And at dinner tonight, at sushi, which I dared to brave with my father (hey, what can you do, sushi is pricey and Daddy likes to pay), he not only spoke to the waitress as if the only English she spoke was that which she used serving tables (which, from what I could gather, is not the case) and said to me, "God, you know, these Asians are just so damned polite. If only all people were as polite as these Asians."
ROOTS! Oh how I forget my ROOTS sometimes! But, you know, I've decided that any step away from racism, sexism, classism, and any other prejudicial -ism I could express is far more creditable in my case than in the case of wealthy white 'liberals' from Connecticut and beyond. I should, by all counts, be an overweight redneck with a slightly more intelligent air.
In other news, I'm running the education group at work this Saturday, and I'm stoked. I'm facilitating a discussion on queer history, complete with documentary footage, research resource information (possibly in the form of bookmarks, if I get industrious), posters, and a raucous debate on if/why queer history is important to know. Wooty-woot-woot.
I'm going to Utah soon, as well. Well, not soon soon, but mid-August. It's high-time I visited the homeland of my life partner in crime, Mr. D'Ambrosio. I'm excited to see Salt Lake (City), especially the new library, which Terrance assures me is hot hot hot. Also the desert, I'm excited to see the desert. And mormons en masse. I hear they're quite a lot.
After about four/five days we're both flying back here; Terrance will be with me for the rest of the summer, and Nicole is joining us for the last few days of Chicago before we all head back to Vassar together. This shit is well orchestrated for sure. I encourage others to visit as well. Let's make it a party. But tell me first, because I might not like you, and then I'd have to backpeddle or something like that.
Also...what? There was something else. Oh! Of minor importance: Chicago has movies in various parks weekly through the summer. Tomorrow night (Tuesday) is movies in Grant Park, and they're showing Annie Hall, which I love, and am excited to go see. Maybe Margo will accompany me. And with that rhyme, I resign. Oh, oh!
