Community Will Be Back in the Spring

This isn't really "new information" as it is the network trying to assuage our fears, but it's nice to hear nonetheless.

Will Community Continue?

NBC's president, Robert Greenblatt, spoke at the Television Critics Association press tour today, and got a jump on the room full of Greendale-loving TV journalists in his opening statements.

"Community has not been cancelled. it will definitely be back this spring," Greenblatt stressed. He acknowledged that when the network's midseason schedule was released (which contained no mention of Community), "I failed to explicitly say it will be back. I want to dispel any notion that it's just quietly disappearing from the schedule." He added, "I know there are many fans of the show in this room and I want you to keep writing about it."

The gist, if you don't want to read it, is that Community will definitely be back in the Spring, and it's timeslot will depend on the success of their other comedies. He does say that Community hasn't faired well as the lead in to a comedy night, so it wouldn't make much sense to put it back in its old time slot (thank the Lord!).  Otherwise, he doesn't have any specifics. That said, it's nice that they're giving us a clear "yes it's coming back" and "here's some of our criteria."

The person writing the article also notes that if NBC doesn't order a 4th season, then Sony might be prompted to sell Community to another station at a discounted rate to get it up to the number of episodes it needs for syndication. I also read somewhere else that Comedy Central is in talks to take on Community in syndication, so who knows, maybe that will turn into an opportunity for them.
