•What unique elements were present in this episode that made it a distinct homage to Glee?
Oh my God, the piano player. The fact that they got someone who looked enough like Brad that you knew who they were referring to, yet different enough that you knew it was a total mock was so brilliant. But it was also an example of how a lot of the humour only worked if you knew Glee.
Which of the seven had the most plausible recruitment story? Which had the most inconsistent reason in terms of character development?
The one thing I found somewhat strange was that Shirley was initially resistant to filling in for the Glee club. It's right up her alley to do something like this!
It was obvious in "The Paradigms of Human Memory" (siiiing sing sing, sing siiiiing! ya yeaaaaa ya ya) that Shirley is really talented at singing AND enjoys it.
Furthermore, it was a CHRISTMAS pageant. Surely Shirley would want to participate in that for the purposes of proselytizing.
Ahhh but her song was so perfect. "Happy Birthday, Jesus. Cut the cake, cut the cake--cut the cake my Lord!"

There were a lot of great things for Gleeks (like me, sadly) to clasp on to here, but the best were the little musical intros and out-tro's to scenes and the pianist being a replica of Brad. Such hilarious little touches that really sold it for me.
Were there any themes or elements that sets it apart from the inspiration show? What other pop culture references were present? Is this a quiz? Because I suck at pop culture. I'm told there's something to do with Body Snatchers, which I've never seen, so I wouldn't know. It's nice that there was a little tribute to Donald's rapping career, especially given how difficult the rap was. The entire Baby Boomer Santa was one big montage to a generation... just lots of fun stuff to cling on to

Alison too, actually... I wish they had just let her sing normally, because her regular singing voice is really nice.
