Fic Battle Sign Up Form and Guidelines for Authors

- Sign up by copy/pasting and filling out the form below in a comment to this entry. Make sure you keep this entry bookmarked or save your answers because you'll need to post the same information to start your comment thread on the battle post on Friday.
  • Maximum rating I will write (G - NC-17):
  • I WILL write any of these genres (underline all that apply): angst, fluff, AU, crossovers, smut, humor, shippy!fic, gen/friendship!fic
  • Added: My preferred characters/ships are:
  • I will NOT write these topics/characters/ships:
  • I WILL write crossovers in any of these fandoms:

- You have until 12pm EST (9am PST) on Thursday, June 14 to sign up.

- On Friday, June 15 at 12pm EST (9am PST) the battle entry will go up.

- To start your comment thread, reply to the battle entry with your username in the subject line of the comment and the sign up form with your answers in the body of the comment. This way anyone prompting you will know your preferences and it will be easier for you to respond to your prompts.

- Track your comment thread! You do that by first posting your comment to the battle entry and then clicking "Track This" below your comment. You might need to check your notification settings on your LJ acccount page to make sure you get emails every time you get a new reply to your comment thread. If you don't want to get emails, make sure you check back often for new prompts!

- You may only fill prompts left for you in your comment thread, and you must fill prompts in the order you receive them.

- Write write write! Remember every fill must be AT LEAST 300 words to count toward your total number of fills. You may go over 300 words, but try to keep it pretty close for your own competitive advantage :) I suggest using a word-processor so you can check your word count before posting, and please remember to take a moment to proofread/spellcheck as well! Just because we're doing a battle doesn't mean spelling/grammar should be left by the wayside ;)

- Just like any other comment fic, post every fill in a reply to the comment containing the prompt. Put the username of the prompter and the prompt word or phrase in the subject line of your comment. This will help keep things organized when the mods are tallying results later.

- Do not delete your own comment. To keep fill-counts accurate, only mods may delete a comment. If you've made a comment in error, such as posting a fill to the wrong prompt, edit the comment to so that the subject line reads "Error" and leave it up, then make the same comment in the appropriate thread. You may edit fills only for egregious spelling/grammar issues that change the meaning of the text (for instance, changing "she" to "he." The word count of the fill MUST remain the same once it is posted.

- If you see any comments that violate the rules (listed under Rules for Prompters), please let one of the mods know asap in case we haven't caught it!

- If you have a question you may reply to the battle entry with the word "Question" in the subject line of your comment.

- You may post fills until Thursday, June 21st at 12pm EST (9am PST). I'm giving about a week to allow for authors' and prompters' various schedules. Any fill posted after this time will not be counted.

- I will post the results of the battle, with Winner(s) and Survivors on Friday, June 22. The author who fills the MOST prompts will be named the Winner, and any author who fills EVERY prompt they are given will be named a Survivor. Mods have the final say of what counts as a fill in terms of word count and content.

Rules and Guidelines for Prompters

- You may post ONE (1) prompt per author at a time. Once you have given an author one prompt, you MUST wait until they post their fill for that prompt before you are allowed to prompt them again. You may prompt as many authors as you like, as long as you give each of them no more than one prompt at a time.

- Pay attention to the authors' preferences as listed in their comment thread. For example, do not prompt an author to write something smutty who has listed their maximum rating as PG-13 or lower.

- Keep in mind the word counts the authors are working with. Keep prompts short and evocative; single words, simple scenarios, song lyrics, etc. Do not give prompts that are overly-specific or involved; paragraph-long plot descriptions, "Five Times," etc.

- No "seconding" or replying to prompts for discussion. You may only reply to fills, not to prompts. We need to keep the comment threads managable and easy to count for the end of the battle. You are welcome to reply with feedback to any fill by any author, just like any other comment fic meme.

- Do not reply to a fill with another prompt. Each prompt and fill should be in their own sub-thread under the author's comment thread. Again, this will make it easier for mods to get accurate counts at the end of the battle.

- Do not delete your own comment. To keep fill-counts accurate, only mods may delete a comment. If you've made a comment in error, such as leaving a prompt in reply to a fill instead of in reply to the author's main thread, edit the comment to so that the subject line reads "Error" and leave it up, then make the same comment in the appropriate thread. You may edit prompts only for egregious spelling/grammar issues that change the meaning of the prompt (for instance if you prompt the word "bear" when you meant "bare").

- If you violate any of these rules, a mod will warn you once. If you violate any rule after being warned, any and all of your comments/unfilled prompts may be deleted at mods' discretion. If you have a question you may reply to the battle entry with the word "Question" in the subject line of your comment.

- If there is any question of whether a fill is adequate in terms of word count or content, please send a private messgae to a mod. The final fill-count for each author will be determined by the mods.

- You may post prompts until EDIT: 10am EST (7am PST) on Thursday, June 21st. Any prompt left after this time will NOT count against the author and may be deleted by a mod.

- If you see any comment that violates these rules, let a mod know asap in case we haven't caught it! :)

Questions and sign-ups all go in the comments! For an example of a fic battle in action, see here.

Thanks to 0penhearts for doing the heavy-lifting on this, and letting me adapt her rules.
