Prompt 3: "That's the worst idea I've ever heard...okay, let's try it."

It started with a simple utterance from Abed. Well perhaps not simple, because nothing simple ever came out of Abed’s mouth, well expect in this case in which it was decidedly simple.

“We should go ice skating,” Abed announced.

Jeff raised an eyebrow.

“Why ice skating, Abed?” Britta asked.

“So we can bond. We need a bonding episode, they do it on TV all the time,” Abed replied.

“Oh that’s nice, I would love to go ice skating,” Shirley smiled.

“Me too,” Annie added.

“Dude, I’m always in,” Troy said before exchanging a secret hand slap the two had put together.

“Real life isn’t like TV, Abed,” Britta scoffed.

“Buzzkill!” Troy accused while he raised an eyebrow at her.

“Fine, I’m in,” Britta sighed and folded her arms over her chest.

“I’m in a wheelchair!” Pierce protested.

“We can roll you across the ice,” Troy responded with a shrug.

“Oh I don’t think that is a very good idea,” Shirley pointed out.

They turned their heads for Jeff’s response. He sighed before resting his chin in his hand.

"That's the worst idea I've ever heard...okay, let's try it,” Jeff said.

The next afternoon, they met up at the local skating rink which was fairly deserted for the time of day. Chang had pestered them about tagging along, so Jeff told him that they were meeting a rink on the other side of town.

“That’s a nice scarf, Troy,” Britta commented as she laced up her skates.

“Thanks. Abed gave it to me this morning,” Troy beamed.

Annie was the first out on the ice and set to work doing figure eights.

“Did you use to be an ice skater?” Britta asked while she skated up to the brunette girl.

“My mom and dad used to take me when I was little, before the divorce. It was nice,” Annie smiled.
Britta returned the smile. “Wanna see a figure eight?”

Troy and Abed were trying to figure out how to get Piece’s chair out on the ice.

“Why aren’t you helping them?” Shirley asked Jeff.

“And miss out watching them end up spilling Pierce all over the ice? Not a chance,” Jeff replied with a wry grin.

“That’s not nice,” Shirley clucked. Unsteadily, she stepped out onto the ice, testing it out first with the toe of the skate.

“Have you ever gone ice skating before?” Jeff asked her.

“No, not really, but I wanted to come. For Abed.”

Jeff sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. “I’ll lend you an arm.”

After Jeff laced up his skates, he stepped out on the ice with Shirley’s arm laced through his own.

“It’s good to know that Jeff has a heart sometimes,” Britta said to Annie.

“Yeah, it is,” Annie replied as the two watched Jeff and Shirley slowly skate around the ice. Shirley was still wobbly on her legs, but Jeff was doing his best to keep her upright.

“Hell yeah! We did it!” Troy cried out triumphantly when he and Abed managed to get Pierce’s chair onto the ice rink.

“This is going to be a disaster,” Jeff said, shaking his head. Britta skated over and took Shirley for a bit while Annie linked arms with Jeff.

Shirley and Britta giggled while watching Abed and Troy try to push an invalid Pierce around the ice. That’s when Pierce suggested that they should do some sort of race.

“What sort of race?” Britta asked.

“A speed race,” Pierce said.

“Speed racer, cool,” Troy smiled.

“Oh no, no, no, no,” Shirley said with panic laced through her voice.

“Sounds lame,” Jeff scoffed.

“I love competition, we should do teams of two. Shirley can be the judge,” Annie announced.

“I’m with Abed!” Troy called out.

“I’ll be with Annie,” Britta said.

Which left Jeff with Pierce.

“This is gonna suck,” Jeff sighed.

~~
Shirley stood at one end of the ice rink, while the three teams stood at the opposite end.

“On your mark, get set, go!” Shirley cried out.

“Did she say snow?” Pierce asked in confusion.

“She said go, grandpa,” Jeff replied with a roll of his eyes. Troy and Abed had already taken off, Abed was insanely fast.

Jeff wrapped his hands around the handles of Pierce’s chair before wheeling him across the ice. Britta was taking her time skating, while Annie was almost neck and neck with Abed. Troy had lost his balance and was now sprawled across the ice.

“Ha, ha, ha, loser!” Pierce tauntingly said to Troy as they skated past him on the ice, which was when Jeff lost his balance and while tripping managed to push Pierce’s chair forward.

Pierce yet out a yell while he skidded across the ice, almost colliding into Annie. She squealed and tried to turn out the way, but ended up falling. The blade of her skate nicked one of the wheels of Pierce’s chair.
“Dude, he’s gonna fly out of it!” Troy cried out.

Pierce didn’t really fly so much as propel face forward out of his wheelchair and onto the ice.

“Dammit!” was the muffled response.

~~
Once Pierce had been returned to his wheelchair (without any more broken bones by some strange miracle), the gang gathered back in the library. Annie and Abed had gone off to get hot chocolate and coffee for everyone and cookies for Pierce. Troy nursed the bump on his head with a pack of ice.

“I had a good time, thanks for suggesting this Abed,” Annie smiled before blowing on the steam that was rising from her cup of hot chocolate. Then she scratched at the snowman band aid that was covering a cut on her knee. Jeff had put it on for her.

“Dude, it was awesome. Remember when Pierce flew across the ice?” Troy laughed.

“It happened fifteen minutes ago, Troy, we all remember,” Jeff said while pouring some booze into his coffee cup then passed the flask over to Britta.

“It wasn’t funny,” Pierce muttered with a mouthful of sugar cookie.

“Yes, it was,” Shirley snickered.

“It was hilarious. The highlight of my day, no of my year,” Jeff said.

Britta laughed into her coffee. “It was pretty funny.”

Pierce mumbled something about her being a lesbian before shoving another cookie into his mouth.
