I've become very good friends with my cousin's fiance -- enough so that she asked me to be her maid of honour. This puts on me the responsibility of handling all the details and making sure all goes smoothly. Thankfully they're both non-traditional so they're just going to the courthouse to sign the papers, then inviting everyone to a Renaissance festival for a grand feast to celebrate the event after the fact, both of which she's handling herself. I just have to keep her on track and prompt her about little things like colours, flowers, handfasting cords, etc. It's sort of like wrangling a rabbit hopped up on Extasy sometimes.
However, there's one project that's truly my own. Rather than separate bachelor and bachelorette parties, they wanted something they could celebrate together, an engagement party. To satisfy them both I'm having a tea party/art exhibition hosted and enjoyed by their friends and loved ones, most of which are very artistic and creative. The theme of the party is the Five Senses of Love and will include visual and tactile art, international music, incredible food (sushi, truffles, English cakes, fruits and cheeses) and, of course, tea. White, green, black, rooibos, oolong, herbal and flowering teas, each at a different station with exotic sugars and honeys to sweeten them.
I've already ordered the teas and six tea pots, ordered little tins to decorate with the theme and fill with teas to give away as gifts to the guests, and in a bit I'm heading out to hit the thrift shops and see if I can come up with forty mismatched tea cups to use. As stressed out as I am right now with some family issues, I'm actually psyched to be planning this thing.
Edit: Score! I got forty tea cups from Goodwill for $10 plus a pretty box I'm going to turn into a "tea chest" filled with artificial sweeteners for those who can't have sugar and honey and a silver tea pot I'm going to do.. something with. I don't know what yet. Maybe turn it into a vase, that's an idea. And thanks to a co-worker giving me a large basket last week, I even have some place decorative to put the tea cups in until the party.
