Dear Madam,
I’m sure you’ll be getting thousands of letters like this and I doubt you’ll see mine, but I just had to write and tell you how sorry I am about what happened to your husband. My Dad sent me an owl a telegram about it. My school is a bit isolated and we don’t always get the news in a timely fashion. To say I was stunned when I heard is putting it mildly. I wandered around in a daze all day and I have no idea what my lessons were about. How can something like this HAPPEN?!?!
I realise that nothing I can say will make this trying time any easier for you. If I could bring him back, I would. He was a true wizard and he will be sorely missed.
Yours in sorrow,
