Handed to Olive, reluctantly, before fleeing the dorm to take breakfast early.
Dear Myrtle,
I am sorry about the way Olive and Tom have been treating you this year. I have tried speaking to Olive, but she is easily annoyed merely thinking about you. I do not understand how you rub each other up the wrong way so easily. Can’t you simply stay away from her. I hate what happens to her
I had hoped that this school year would be different from the pattern that has eff affected our relationship until now. It seems that that was a vain hope. I would never have wished that we could be friends, we are so different after all. But my friend Elizabeth
Dear Myrtle,
I am writing on behalf of Olive and Tom to apologise for her behaviour this term. I had hoped that this summer break would let her move on from her treatment of you in particular, but it sadly seems that such a hope was in vain.
Dear Olive,
Why ca’n’t you simply leave Myrtle alone.? Nothing you tease her for is her fault and she has done nothing little nothing to antagonise you. It is horrible to see you behave in such a beastly manner so someone who has so little with which to defend herself.
This is the last time I shall mention it. You are mean whenever she is even mentioned and I hate to see you like that. If you value our friendship as I do, please do not go so far out of your way to humiliate her. Leave her alone, or I you will become someone I don’t like, and I would hate to lose you.
You are smart and funny, and so patient with the younger students. It is sad that you cannot be like that with everyone.
Please.
With love,
