Dear Mother and Father (and Edgar & Oliver, by association),

Hogwarts is, well, nice. A bit larger than I expected, but I guess these things happen, don’t they? I know that the stories you always told, Dad, made Hogwarts out to seem positively massive, but I’ll confess, I did doubt you, but now that I’m here, I don’t think you were lying at all. *casually*

You certainly did look silly sitting up there with your mouth hanging open. Not get into the house you thought you would?

Bella's being a pill. Sorry! But from me; Welcome!

*nervously*

No, no I didn't. I wanted to be in Ravenclaw, like my father. Or even Slytherin, like my mother.

It's all right; I expect nothing less of her. Thanks!

*looks stunned*

Your mother was a Slytherin?!

I appreciate that! And come on over and join the cq_roundtable!

*shifts uncomfortably and then stands up straighter*

Yes, yes she was. And she was a lovely one at that.

Sure thing!

*still looks amazed*

Won't she be upset that you're not in her old house?

*blinks and shakes head slowly*

No, I don't think so. When I told her I wanted to be in Ravenclaw, she was quite encouraging.

But surely she wanted her daughter to follow in her footsteps.

I know my Mother did. Father too.

*proudly*

They were both Slytherins!

Well, maybe she does; I do look her after all, but I don't think she'll mind. The Hat did consider Slytherin, for about ten seconds, then it was nearly decided upon Ravenclaw, and then this.

*sniffs*

Well, my father was a Ravenclaw. We've got a mix of Houses, but never a...Puff before.

*disdainful*

It's never a good sign when the hat doesn't know where to put you right off.

A Ravenclaw and a Slytherin. How very...interesting.

*miffed*

Well, you don't have to rub it in.

And what about them? There is nothing wrong with my parents. Nothing at all.

*delighted that she's found a sore spot*

Oh, I'm so sorry. I shan't mention it again if it bothers you so much.

*shrugs*

Like attracts like. It just seems odd for a Slytherin and a Ravenclaw to end up married to each other.

*narrows eyes slightly*

Good.

*pointedly*

Now that's just a stupid statement. Clearly you don't have to have any brains or logic to be in Slytherin at all. Or in your family. Did your parents teach you nothing? Like things repel each other.

*gleefully*

I certainly wouldn't want to upset you by mentioning such a thing again.

*stiffens*

It's true that some Slytherins don't appear to have much intelligence, but mindless ambition doesn't get you very far.

My parents taught me that!

Not mentioning any specific Slytherins, mind you. *cough*Lockhart! ;)
